The Skin Microbiome

So many microbiomes...so little time.

You’ve probably heard a lot about your gut microbiome

and, brace yourself...your skin has a microbiome too.

Your skin microbiome is:

A community of good bacteria, funghi, and

microrganisms living on your skin.

I know...it’s a little gross to think about, but

healthy skin depends on it.

It’s basically your skin’s built-in defense system.

When your skin microbiome is balanced it helps:

~ Protect your skin barrier

~ Keep inflammation in check

~ Prevent breakouts

~ Support healing

What disrupts your microbiome?

~ Over exfoliating, Harsh cleansers

~ Using too many actives at once

~ Constantly switching products

~ Over-stripping your skin’s natural oils

Disruption shows up on the skin as:

~ Breakouts, Sensitivity, Redness, Dryness,

Flare-Ups (excema, dermatitis)

How to support it (without overthinking):

Focus on:

~ Gentle, balanced cleansing

~ Don’t over exfoliate

~ Symplify your routine

~ Keep your skin (and body) hydrated

~ Be consistent

~ If your skin is reacting, pause, try to identify the cause

About those “microbiome” products:

Some can help, but they’re not magic.

If your routine is too harsh or inconsistent, no serum is going to fix that.
